TOP 50 STL Business Idea of the Week: Virtual Fitness
Seasonal Depression. I hear this term every year during the doldrums of Winter. The weather is cold and gray; the sun rises too late and sets too early. We all spend far too much time indoors and get a little stir crazy. One place we can escape to is the gym, but unfortunately, we remain relegated to the indoors. It’s not quite the same as running through the neighborhood or hiking in the woods. Jogging on a treadmill projects to me an image of a hamster spinning its wheel.
So, my idea is to use technology to our advantage. In the tech world, virtual reality is making some amazing strides this year. Perhaps instead of staring at a wall inside at a gym, VR Headsets will allow us to run on top of the Great Wall of China or through tulip fields in Amsterdam. My hope is that technology will make indoor fitness training much more entertaining.
I also like the idea of adding gaming into the fitness equation. Why not create competive games that require physical movement? How many kids are already engrossed in their virtual worlds but all they’re moving is a joystick or game controller? SO, my challenge is to create a virtual fitness center with hitech, interactive exercise machines that allow participants to compete with themselves and/or other members.
Imagine running a marathon through the French countryside or even the Arctic Circle all while pacing yourself against the person on the treadmill to your left or right. To me, it sounds a lot more entertaininng than staring at a wall or the snow on the ground – if you can even see outside since it’s so dark in the morning and evening. Heck, this could even lead to a cure for season depression.
Disclaimer – I’m aware that wearable technologies are helping people better compete physically with one another. I’m also aware that game consoles like the Nintendo Wii and games like Dance, Dance Revolution serve a purpose similar to what I’m imagining. But, I’m not aware of a fitness center that provides it altogether. If you know of one, please let me know. Also, if you’re interested in collaborating on this idea, please don’t hesitate to contact me at email@example.com.
